guest post at read/writeweb - collaborative filtering: lifeblood of the social web

Filed under: social media — muhammad saleem @ 2:16 pm

i’ve written a guest post at read/writeweb on the importance of collaborative filtering and recommendation systems.

the (cf) system is without a doubt the lifeblood of the social web. even though different platforms apply it to varying extents, the system is still there at the core, and the social web would look more like rush hour in downtown Lahore if the community wasn’t actively policing the traffic.

give readwriteweb a visit for the whole article. if you’re feeling really generous, give us a digg.

guest post at read/writeweb: friendfeed - one feature to the tipping point

Filed under: social media — muhammad saleem @ 12:08 am

i’ve written a guest post at read/writeweb on the evolution of friendfeed.

friendFeed is not a lifestream aggregator anymore (at least to me and hundreds of others), it is the perfect platform for sharing and discussing content with groups focused on a specific topic. it is forums 2.0, if you will and it is precisely what the social web, even with gods like facebook, digg, youtube, and flickr, are severely lacking.

check out the entire post and follow me on friendfeed and twitter.

guest post at read/writeweb: why social news sites must implement social search

Filed under: social media — muhammad saleem @ 3:43 pm

i’ve written a guest post at read/writeweb on the importance of search functionality on social news sites.

social search is the future. and socially driven content sites - with their massive indexes of websites, huge communities and decent social networking features, and ample information on user habits and preferences (based on past behavior) - are in the best position to take the lead.

guest post at gigaom: for the future of marketing, look to social media

Filed under: social media — muhammad saleem @ 9:12 am

i’ve written a guest post at gigaom on the future of marketing.

there was a time not too long ago when the business implications of social media were unclear; resistance to it on the part of corporations, therefore, was somewhat understandable. web 2.0 seemed like just the next internet fad in a series of many, and while it was viewed as having value for individuals and enthusiasts, it didn’t seem viable for corporate use. but corporations need to realize that social media is here to stay — and that in it lies the future of marketing.

for more on the future of marketing check out gigaom.
