about
hello everyone and thanks for stopping by. i’m muhammad saleem.
i finished my a.b. degree in economics along with a minor in slavic languages and literature (with a focus on russian) from the university of chicago in june, ’07. i spend most of my free time on various social bookmarking and networking sites, and writing about social media.
i started my writing career with ‘the mu life’, covering social media, however, after joining pronet advertising i stopped maintaining the former site and moved that content to this site. in the past, i have written for the blog herald and 901 am. more recently i have written regular guest posts for copyblogger, searchengineland, readwriteweb, problogger, mashable, freelanceswitch and techcrunch, centernetwork, pickthebrain, and bloggingexperiment. i also helped run and maintain the art of manliness, a blog dedicated to rediscovering what it really means to be a man, as well as a weburbanist, webecoist, and brainz.org.
i have contributed to newassignment.net, which is an ongoing experiment in open source journalism, and from august 2006 to november 2008 i worked for propeller as a ‘professional social bookmarker’. most recently, i helped launch tip’d, a socially driven community for financial news, ideas, and tips, where i am also the community director and in charge of marketing. i headed the social media marketing division at advantage consulting services for a year and a half before starting my own company, and was recently listed as one of the top 100 most influential marketers of 2008.
from july 2009 to june 2010 i was in charge of social media strategy at chicago tribune media group’s chicagonow project as well as their chicago news paper properties. while at the tribune, i helped chicago now grow from 2 million page views a month to 25 million page views a month. i left tribune company in june 2010 to join consumer media network, where i work today.
please give me a call or drop me an email. let me know if i can do something to help you achieve your goals.
