hello there! if you're new here and like what you read, you may want to grab the rss feed so you can always be up to date. thanks for visiting!

i saw the following submission on reddit earlier today,

socially driven irony

and couldn’t help but point out the irony. as of last count, the submission had 35 positive votes (and 25 down votes). the following are screen grabs of two different times from the reddit front page from a little while back:

socially driven irony 1

socially driven irony 2

one of the things social media is about, is instant gratification. and maps, charts, graphs, statistics, and pictures, help content producers do exactly that.

MS, why would you vote it down, then post it? It’s absolutely true. You are part of the trend yourself. I listen to your podcasts, and it seems that your Diggs and Reddits are good, so why would you be against an “irony” that is obviously intentional?

Do the right thing. Change your vote.

haha, that’s excellent. But Reddit = 10 hour behind version of Digg. Plus Reddit has such a closed-gate community feel to it, they’re 10x more hostile then Diggers.

  3. Noah Everett Says:

    Agreed reddit = very hostile.

  4. Adam Says:

I can’t stand reddit. I’ve posted many stories that’ll get 30-40 diggs and 0 points on reddit….I also hate the design.

  5. sasquatchbill Says:

    Agreed, Adam. reddit is UGLY.

  6. Jason Bartholme Says:

I agree with adam. I can’t figure out that crowd . Digg and del.icio.us users are fairly easy to read.

reddit has a decent amount of items that i have seen on diggs front page a DAY later. It goes back and forth evenly. I use both daily because I can get the most by using both. Also, the design is a bit odd as far as order goes but the look of it is great to me.

  8. giggity Says:

In my opinion, reddit is far superior than digg. People aren’t so judgemental and I see less comment spam and flames. I like the content more than digg’s content, and I prefer reddit’s layout 1000 times more than digg. I don’t think it’s true that reddit is hours behind digg. Plenty of times I’ve seen reddit hours AHEAD of digg. Most of the time, a significant percentage of contact is found at the same time on both sites.

  9. J Says:

I only use both sites through popurls, so I could care less about the interfaces or users of either beyond the content they provide for me to waste my time with.

  10. Slipgrid Says:

Reddit seems to have more interesting stories than digg. Also, the features work better. For instance, if you don’t like a site, on Reddit, you can block it. On digg, people bury every site they don’t like, which keeps good sites out of view from others.

Reddit is where it’s at, unless your looking for screen shots of some video game, or a broke and buggy comment system.

    Niko Bellic,

actually reddit is almost always 10 hours ahead of digg. everyday i get home and check out digg.com, all i find is the same links that i read in the morning at work.

  12. colin Says:

I hate both reddit and digg ’cause the only thing that seems to end up on the top stories is xkcd, extremely old image macros, and retarded stories nobody cares about.

they’re both a waste of time.

  13. Urbanist Says:

Reddiggit is what we obviously need! Honestly they are each good for different things. Reddit is biased toward political content of certain varieties while Digg leans toward geeky and tech stuff IMHO.

BOTH sites have a lot of one-off images sprinkled in for humor or weirdness value. Neither is better than the other instrinsically, it’s all a matter of (1) what you enjoy and (2) how engaged you are with that community.

I don’t like the the amount of pictures on digg but then I guess its the users creating the content so some people must like it!
