    There seem to only be examples of digg shown and not any other social media site, like StumbleUpon for example. I personally see StumbleUpon as a bigger force, I got 120K visitors over a month from them and the effect was much better than a crashed server from digg traffic.

    Good read nonetheless.

    I agree with hyder, although it seems to me, that these rules can be applied to other social sites as well. The principles remain - more or less - the same.

    would the green slash on a digg counter indicating that a story was dugg by mutual friends make digg what james surowiecki refers to as a republic? a story dugg by a power user will have the green slash for thousands of fans and friends, possibly wielding more influence, as opposed to a story dugg by an average or new user that will have the green slash for less fans and friends. however, that theory may extend the rank of power user or influencer to people with many friends or fans other than just the chris finke way of judging them by how many stories a user has made popular although people with more popular stories typically have more fans.
